ASIA TRAIL CONTRIBUTORS SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Asia Trail is the Asia’s first trail magazine for trail running enthusiasts. In-depth editorial and compelling photography informs, entertains and inspires readers of all ages and abilities to enjoy the outdoors and to improve their health and fitness through the sport of trail running.

Asia Trail is always looking for experienced freelance writers to contribute to the magazine. Note that Ask the Coach, Training, Gear and Nutrition articles are most often written by experts (coaches, nutritionists, doctors, etc.). Your well-written query should present a clear, original and provocative story angle, not merely a topic or idea.

If we are interested in your story idea, an editor will contact you within two weeks. Any query must be submitted with the contact form at the bottom of this page.

EDITORIAL SUBMISSIONS

FEATURES
Although our training plans and nutritional features are written by experienced coaches and certified nutritionists, we’re always looking to expand our pool of experts. Please submit queries to the contact form below if you have the right credentials.

Profile (1,500 to 2,000 words)
Motivational and inspirational, feature profiles (1,500-2,000 words) highlight a trail runner who has overcome accomplished something incredible through trail running. In general, professional runners should have an element of depth and interest to them beyond just excelling at their sport. We also profile amateur trail runners who have fascinating lives or careers; it’s their story that determines who makes a good subject.

Trail Adventure (1,500 to 2,000 words)
We are always looking for “Adventure Runs” from readers — runs in wild, remote beautiful and interesting places. These are rarely race stories but more like backtracking/running adventures. Great color photos are extremely helpful, and often crucial in the decision to publish or not.

Training: A focused essay on a timely training topic relevant to trail runners. Articles should be supported with input from reliable sources, such as scientific journals, experts or studies. (1000 to 1500 words)

REGULARS

Fitness: Health news for trail runners, including injury treatment and prevention and general well-being (800-1000 words). 

Trail Newbies: topics can be wide-ranging, but are specifically trail-running-service oriented for beginners (800-1000 words).

Nutrition: Usually written by a registered sports nutritionist, this 800 to 1,200-word piece provides practical tips and advice for trail runners on how best to fuel their active lifestyle. Articles should be backed by current scientific research.

Recipe: Arranged around a healthy recipe for runners created by a chef, coach or elite athlete, this one-page piece provides all the details readers need to create a healthy dish, post-run recovery meal, snack, etc. Recipes must include nutritional data.

Gear reviews:
are conducted in-house.

News & Race: short profile of an upcoming trail race or race report (each 100 to 500 words).

Trail of the month: Description of a unique trail for its scenery, wildness. High resolution photo must be submitted together with the article (200 to 800 words).

City profile: Practical info on where to train in an Asian city. High resolution photo must be submitted together with the article (800-1000 words).

PHOTOGRAPHY SUBMISSIONS

Asia Trail Runner regularly features stunning photography of trail-running destinations, races, adventures and faces of the sport.

Please send low-resolution samples for consideration.
